Missions and Goals Statement for MisterParkour.com

Almost 6 months have passed since MisterParkour.com was founded, and although our primary mission is the same, “Staying True to Parkour,” our methods and goals for achieving this have evolved. Like anything in life, as those involved become more experienced and knowledge they are able to refine their methods and come up with better and more efficient was to achieve their goals. At MisterParkour.com we are no different and we have a developed some new guiding principles for this site that will help reinforce our mission and goals and expand them so that they can reach a wider audience of people.

Our original “Mission and Goals Statement for MisterParkour.com” –which is still in its 100% unaltered form below- said this:

“… ‘staying true to Parkour’ by providing an accurate educational location for those interested in learning about and/or doing Parkour.”

The purpose of creating this educational resource was originally focused in large part towards counteracting commercial exploitation that brought negative publicity to Parkour. Recently the commercial market for Parkour and Parkour-like action has exploded, and now Parkour (and extensions thereof) have been prominently featured in television shows, movies, commercials, music videos and the like with very little, if any, negative repercussions towards Parkour. This can be credited in large part to the majority of the Parkour community around the world, who has done an incredible job being activists, and humble, responsible, and respectful, representatives of the sport. Although protecting the true meaning of Parkour from possible negative media publicity and misrepresentation is still a concept we want to perpetuate and further at MisterParkour.com, in light of the recent positive expansion of Parkour we would like to further extend our methods to more directly focus MisterParkour.com towards the educational facet of our mission and goals. Below we have expanded upon our previous goals and outlined our new methods for achieving this:

Our goals for MisterParkour.com are to strive to be…

  1. A succinct compendium of the most relevant and important Parkour videos, articles, and information on the web.
  2. Easy to navigate and find specific information, articles, and videos etc.
  3. Open to the suggestions and information submitted by anyone in the Parkour community so that everyone feels like they are an integral part of building and cataloging the information on the site
  4. In all this we also commit to staying true to the meanings of Parkour as defined by David Belle through his words, actions and persona.

The most important points of these four are the last two. First, our commitment to “staying true to…Parkour as defined by David” (from now on referred to as “Parkour” or “Parkour by David”) is of the utmost priority and in one sentence embodies our primary mission. We do, and will continue to do, everything we can to represent Parkour accurately as David would want it represented. And in our attempt to do so we always default back to David…which is why we make it a point to quote him as much as possible. However, we at MisterParkour.com are not beyond mistakes and we are always learning more about the art. In this sentiment, if we ever misrepresent Parkour or misquote David in any way, please let us know and it will be changed immediately! In addition, as #3 says, to truly build this site to accomplish these goals we need Tracers to submit information from around the globe. If a David Belle video was recently released let us know! If there is a national newspaper or news feature segment featuring Parkour send us the link! If you want to submit your demo we’d be happy to feature it! If you want to submit an article you’ve written we’d be happy to post it! If there is information about a video that wasn’t included when the link was originally posted (such as a date of filming, and/or the Tracers featured etc) please let us know so we will update that too! We believe that allowing MisterParkour.com to grow organically from outside input and contributions is the only way to truly meet the goals we have outlined above. And we readily look forward to providing this opportunity and resource for the global Parkour community.

Some prominent Parkour sites are controlled by the owners who decide what information is prominently posted and what isn’t. Other sites are regionally based and/or are only focused around one specific Tracer or group. And countless others have great information and links but it is either cataloged poorly or there just isn’t enough of it. But by working together we can create a single location that effectively counteracts these self imposed limitations, and by doing so we will help spread Parkour in the most efficient and effective way. Whether you are an experienced Tracer who plans to submit information and resources to MisterParkour.com, or whether you are new to Parkour and you just want to watch videos of David Belle and other incredible athletes that have redefined the human limitations to move, we thank you for visiting the site and wanting to learn more. We aim to make MisterParkour.com as dynamic as possible in the hopes that you look forward to visiting us every time you turn on your computer.

Our ambition is to unite people under Parkour by David, and in doing this we aim to post at least one video, feature, article or reference everyday! But no matter how comprehensive the catalog on MisterParkour.com becomes we will always be learning and growing. So if you have comments, questions, suggestions, or other ideas please contact us and we will be happy to respond as soon as possible. Thank you so much for your contributions and being a part of MisterParkour.com!

Original Missions and Goals Statement for MisterParkour.com

Hello and welcome to misterpakour.com! My name is Adam Dunlap and I am a professional Tracer and the primary administrator of this site. I am a native and current resident of Portland, OR and I have created this site with the goal of providing an educational resource for those interested in learning about Parkour.

As the popularity of Parkour grows both nationally and internationally, the history, and original intentions and purposes of Parkour are slowly fading from memory at the hands of commercial exploitation. Although, we at MisterParkour.com believe that the publicity and commercialism of Parkour can be a positive avenue to spread the knowledge of the discipline, we also believe that commercialism of Parkour, when exploited with a lack of respect for the origins of the discipline, not only detracts from the art form but also negatively influences opportunities for the discipline by projecting an unnecessarily dangerous image of Parkour to the masses. In an effort to counteract this prevailing occurrence, our mission at MisterParkour.com will be “staying true to Parkour” by providing an accurate educational location for those interested in learning about and/or doing Parkour. Included in this site will be links to some of the most relevant and accurate articles, stories, news features, and Parkour videos on the planet. And for those located in the greater Portland area, misterparkour.com will also be your contact to some of the most skilled and knowledgeable Tracers in the region. Whether you decide to enroll in Parkour classes or merely utilize the content within this site to learn about the history, philosophies, and techniques used in/of Parkour, we at MisterParkour.com hope that this site becomes your primary Parkour reference. And more than anything, as you use this site to grow in your understanding of Parkour we hope that your life will be enriched both mentally and physically through this amazing art form.

This site is still in its developmental stages, but if you have comments, questions, or things you would like to see in the site, please contact us and we will be happy to respond to your inquiry as soon as possible. Thank you so much for being a part of MisterParkour.com!
